have a good knowledge of为固定搭配,意为“对……

此题a needle and thread 作为同一件东西对待,故选B项。

even if意为“尽管,即使”;in case意为“以防;万一”;now that意为“既然、由于”均不符合语境。

judging from/by …

故选D项,(be) buried in(=bury oneself in) 意为“埋头于;专心于”。

由“because he has gone to school”可知此处表示强烈的否定推测,应该用can’t;mustn’t 在英语中不用于表示推测,它表示的是“禁止‘不允许”。

“see +sb.

turned inside out吹翻。

53. A 由后文how beautiful the rain really is可知,此处指雨很美。

由第一段“Country and western music would not be the same without a guitar. The traditional Spanish folk music called Flamenco could not exist without a guitar. (Text 6)

M: What are you watching?

W: A film about India.

M: Oh, I’ve always wanted to go there. I read a wonderful book when I was a boy. What’s the film about?

W: It describes a man’s journey through India. He travelled by slow train, by boat. He even went 200 kilometres by taxi.

M: That sounds wonderful.

W: Yes, he lived a happy life there. He met his wife, worked as a teacher in a school, and he decided to live there for the rest of his life.

M: I’d love to do something like that. Maybe we could go there together, you and I on a slow train through India.

W: No way!

(Text 7)

M: Mrs Spencer, what time is Mr Black’s flight expected to arrive at Boston Airport?

W: Around 2:00 p.m., sir. Will you go with the company car to meet him?

M: Yes. So I’d better leave here no later than now. How about the hotel for Mr Black and his party?

W: I made the reservations for them last week and checked again yesterday to be sure everything is ready.

M: Including the welcome room for tonight’s reception?

W: That’s right. The manager promised me that everything would be exactly as we have requested.

M: Excellent. I want everything to be the very best.

W: I’m sure it will be. That manager has never let us down yet.

M: We want to make a good impression. Not just to be sure that this business deal is a success, but to pay back the wonderful treatment we received from him in Tokyo last year.

(Text 8)

W: OK. What about the windows?

M: Well, the ones downstairs were always locked. We even have a lock on the little one in the hall.

W: And upstairs?

M: Well, I think most of the windows were probably locked. They were all locked on Friday.

W: And you didn’t open any on Friday night?

M: No, I’m sure I didn’t.

W: Well, I can’t understand it. Let’s go and look round. Perhaps I’ll notice something you’ve missed.

(Text 9)

W: Good morning, everyone. I’d like to introduce our guest to you, John Watson. We’re delighted to have John with us today to share his views on protecting the environment.

M: Thank you, Agenda. It’s nice to be here. When I was seven years old, back in the 1940’s, my father bought a large piece of land in eastern Australia. The excellent thing about it was it was completely natural. But this kind of country doesn’t exist any more.

W: What do you mean by that?

M: Well, let me explain. We went to live there when I was 10. When I was 12, the foxes and cats appeared. And by the time I was 14, there were no native animals left.

W: You mean, that within 4 years, all the native animals had gone?

M: That’s exactly what I mean. But it took a while for people to realise what was going on.

W: So you’re saying that it was the cats and the foxes that killed off the native animals?

M: Completely right! But back in the 1970’s people didn’t realise it. Even though Australia was losing wildlife faster than the rest of the world combined, people were blaming the farmers and miners, but not their lovely little cats! And what’s more, they didn’t want to know!

(Text 10)
