When I was a kid，I used to spend hours listening to Adam Carolla and Dr.Drew Pinsky on their Sunday night radio show Loveline.I listened so often that I began to use one of their well-known phrases—“good times”—in my daily conversations.Scientists have a name for this phenomenon：behavior mimicry．

You’ve probably experienced this before：after spending enough time with another person，you might become familiar with his or her behavior or speech habits.You might even start to develop your friend’s habits without realizing it.There is a large body of literature about this sort of phenomenon，and it regularly happens for everything from body postures to accents to drink patterns.For example，one study found that young adults were more likely to drink their drinks directly after their same-sex drinking partners，than to drink at their own paces.

And the effect isn’t only limited to face-to-face activities of real life .Another study found that the same “you-drink-then-I-drink” pattern held even when watching a movie! In other words，people were more likely to take a drink of their drinks in a theater after watching the actors on the screen enjoy a drink.

As for most experiments，these results raise a lot of questions.The finding that behavior mimicry may at least partly account for eating behavior is still important,and has real effects on health.The researchers explain that “as long as people don’t fully recognize such important influences on intake，it will be difficult to make healthy food choices and keep a healthy diet，especially when people are exposed to the eating behavior of others”．

What will people die of 100 years from now? If you think that is a simple question，you have not been paying attention to the revolution that is taking place in bio-technology (生物技术). With the help of new medicine，the human body will last a very long time. Death will come mainly from accidents，murder and war. Today's leading killers, such as heart disease, cancer, and aging itself，will become distant memories.

In discussion of technological changes, the Internet gets most of attention these days. But the change in medicine can be the real technological event of our times. How long can humans live? Human brains were known to decide the final death. Cells are the basic units of all living things，and until recently，scientists were sure that the life of cells could not go much beyond 120 years because the basic materials of cells, such as those of brain cells, would not last forever. But the upper limits will be broken by new medicine. Besides calling 911，here is what to do in some life-threatening emergencies when no one is around to help.

Lost in the wilderness

First，you've got to acknowledge you're in trouble. Stay where you can be seen clearly and remember to rest. Keeping a sense of humor helps too—it reduces stress and helps creative thinking. In a wide open area，make a colorful cross out of rocks to show your present position.

Choking

Aim to hit the top of the chair against your stomach，in the soft part below the bony upside-down V of the ribs (肋骨)．Make a sudden push against the chair. If you still can't breathe after six tries，call 911，even if you can't talk. Write the word choking somewhere nearby，and leave the line open until help arrives.

Severe bleeding

Use your hand or clean cotton，or paper towels，or a scarf，or any cloth you can find，and push down on the wound until the bleeding stops. But if you put a band around your leg tightly，you're going to close the vessels (血管) to the entire leg.In this way，you could lose your foot.

Bear attack

If you surprise a bear，don't run away. That invites an attack. Instead，stand up and back away slowly，without looking the bear in the eyes. If it does charge (猛冲) at you，stick out your chest，raise your arms，and spread your legs. Shout at the bear，to frighten it. If it's going to attack，lie facedown，with your hands held firmly behind your neck. Play dead until you're sure the bear is gone.

Big Ben is the nickname for the great bell of the clock in London. The name was given in honor of Sir Benjamin Hall，who was in charge of the work when the bell was built in 1856. It didn't strike until 3 years later.

The clock has become a landmark of the United Kingdom and London, particularly in the visual media (可视媒体). When a television or film-maker wishes to quickly show a non-UK audience a certain location in Britain，a popular way to do so is to show an image of the Clock Tower.

The Clock Tower is a focus of New Year celebrations in the United Kingdom, with radio and TV stations tuning to its chimes (钟声) to welcome the start of the year.

Londoners who live a proper distance from the Clock Tower and Big Ben can, by means of listening to the chimes both live and on the radio or television, hear the bell strike thirteen times on New Year's Eve. This is possible because the speed of sound is a lot slower than the speed of radio waves.

Big Ben has appeared in many films.
