Faraway, huge and shaped over thousands of years by the seas and glaciers, Norway’s breathtaking natural scenery leaves many visitors in awe (惊叹). Adding to its appeal is the fact that the country has once again been selected as the best place in the world to live for health and social prosperity (繁荣). This has been true for 12 years in a row, according to the United Nations’ 2015 Human Development Index (指数), released on Dec 14. “Its outdoor lifestyle, which makes the most of the mountains and fjords (峡湾), undoubtedly plays a key role in the country’s health,” said The Independent newspaper. In the summer, Norwegians go hiking, camping, picnicking and fishing. In the winter, it’s time to play in the snow. As The Telegraph newspaper noted, “Many Norwegians grow up on the slopes and can ski like professional athletes.” The Norwegian diet is another factor in Norwegians’ good health. A typical homemade meal is low in sugar, fat and salt, and is usually made up of fish, meat, potatoes, berries, whole-grain bread and vegetables. “Dining out is relatively uncommon,” Women’s Health magazine noted. “There is not a big fast-food culture and there are no ready meals.” Even though fast food restaurants have been set up in the country, to discourage unhealthy eating, the government has put higher duties on fast food and soft drinks since 1981. The mentality (心理) of the Norwegian people has also played an essential role in the country’s health and social success. The Danish-Norwegian novelist Aksel Sandemose once wrote down the Law of Jante, which shows important ideas in Norwegian culture: modesty (谦虚), collectivity and social equality. Overall, the law suggests that no one is better than another person, and that people should not brag about their achievements.

Working in Detroit ... rain, rain, and more rain.

I rushed to the airport only to find out from an airline ticket representative (机场地勤人员) that my return flight was one hour late. As I cleared security, the progress of my flight went from departing (起程) one hour late to two hours, then three hours, then four hours late. I learned about these delays from the announcements given by an annoying airline gate agent. It became clear that I was going to miss my connecting flight home. After minute-by-minute travel rearrangements, and knowing that I had to give Web-based training (网上培训) the next morning back home, my husband Jim decided to drive to the airport, pick me up, and drive me back. Jim and I arrived home at 4:30 am. I napped for a couple of hours, made coffee, logged on to the Internet conference site for my training, and waited and waited and waited…. It is lonely giving Web-based live meeting training when no one logs in. Do you know why they didn’t log in? Because I had actually scheduled the training for the next day, not the day that we had raced home to await. I worried about telling Jim that he had held off sleep, driven through a huge storm and gotten through road construction to get me home 24 hours early for training. But the phone eventually rang as he called from work and it was time to own up (坦白). What do you think he said? What would you have said? Would you have scolded (责骂)? Yelled? Teased? Would you have called all of your friends and let them know? Well, Jim’s response to finding out that he had driven an almost 400-mile round trip in the rain for nothing was a slight chuckle (轻声地笑) and this comment: “The important thing is you are home.” The important thing is you are home ... Today, remind someone how important it is that they are at home with you. If they live far away, tell them how important it is that they have a home in your heart.

What trouble did the writer have? A. She was informed of the web-based training too late and was going to miss it. B. Her plane was delayed and she had to rearrange her connecting flight home. C. She failed to give the web-based training as no one was informed to log in on time. D. She had a big argument with an annoying airline gate agent and missed her flight.

Which of the following is TRUE according to the text? A. The writer cancelled her web-based training permanently. B. The writer took it for granted that Jim would pick her up from the airport. C. Jim drove the writer all the way home from the airport to get her there in time for her

training. D. The writer caught her connecting flight and was back home in time for her training.

The writer felt worried about owning up to Jim because . A. she knew he would get really upset and yell at her B. she was afraid he might tell her friends C. she was sorry that it had taken him so long to get home D. she had mistaken the date for the training and he needn’t have picked her up

What do we know about Jim from the text?

A. He cares about his family.

B. He does not want to feel regret. C. He is willing to do anything for his wife.

D. He loves driving more than anything else.

When we’re young and we dream of love and fulfillment, we think perhaps of moon-covered Parisian nights or walks along the beach at sunset.?No one tells us that the greatest moments of a lifetime are short, unplanned and nearly always catch us off guard.???

Not long ago,as I was reading a bedtime story to my seven-year-old daughter, Annie,I became aware of her focused look. She was staring at me with a faraway, blank expression. Apparently, completing The Tale of Samuel Whiskers was not as important as we first thought.???

I asked what she was thinking about.??"Mommy," she whispered, "I just can't stop looking at your pretty face." I almost dissolved(溶解)on the spot.??Little did she know how many trying moments the glow of her sincerely loving statement would carry me through over the following years.??

Not long after, I took my four-year-old son to an elegant department store, where the sweet notes of a classic love song drew us toward a tuxedoed ( 穿晚礼服的 ) musician playing a grand piano. Sam and I sat down on a marble bench nearby, and he seemed as astonished by the pleasant theme as I was.??I didn't realize that Sam had stood up next to me until he turned, took my face in his little hands and said, "Dance with me."???

If only those women walking under the Paris moon knew the
