洛阳市第一高级中学高三模拟英语试卷 科目:英语 时间:4月28日 15:00— 17:00 满分:150分 一、阅读理解(满分40分, 每小题2分) A(晋雯) Movies that have had a great influence on society and awareness tend to force us to care about topics outside of our comfort zone. While the characters in the following two classic storied suffer from medical issues, they have an effect on our understanding of illness and the human spirit. ●My Left Foot (1989) Health issue: cerebral palsy (大脑性麻痹) Starring: Daniel Day-Lewis, Brenda Fricker Plot summary: It is a true story of Irish writer and cerebral palsy victim Christy Brown. He is a young Irish man suffering from cerebral palsy, which make most of his body motionless except for his left foot. Because of his disorder, Brown is considered mentally useless by most people who know him, including his own father. However, with support from his mother, Brown learns to write and paint with his left foot and eventually becomes a famous artist and author. Influence: Although Brown’s 1970 novel Down All the Days was quite popular, by the 1980s, many still associated cerebral palsy with his complete mental and physical disability. The film helped to change people’s wrong ideas by stressing Brown literary and artistic contribution, his sense of humor and struggles with depression. ●The King’s Speech (2010) Health issue: the stutter (口吃) Starring: Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush, Helena Bonham Carter Plot summary: GeorgeⅥ, King of the United Kingdom, suffers from a stuttering disorder, so most people think he is unfit to lead the country. But with the help of a speech expert, King George Ⅵ overcomes his disorder and becomes a capable leader. Influence: The King’s Speech has been praised for its accurate description of the challenges commonly faced by GeorgeⅥ who had a speech disorder. “This movie raised awareness of the complexities of the stutter and also of the help that is available to those in need,” Jane Fraser, President of The Stuttering Foundation, tells Yahoo Health. 21. Which of the following it TRUE about GeorgeⅥ? A. He was upset about having stuttering B. He finally became a speech expert C. He was thought unfit to be a king D. He was unwilling to be a king B(王当丽) Can dogs and cats live in perfect harmony in the same home? People who are thinking about adopting a dog as a friend for their cats are worried that they will fight. A recent research has found a new recipe of success. According to the study, if the cat is adopted before the dog, and if they are introduced when still young (less than 6 months for cats, a year for dogs), it is highly probable that the two pets will get along swimmingly. Two-thirds of the homes interviewed reported a positive relationship between their cat and dog. However, it wasn't all sweetness and light. There was a reported coldness between the cat and dog in 25% of the homes, while aggression and fighting were observed in 10% of the homes. One reason for this is probably that some of their body signals were just opposite. For example, when a cat turns its head away it signals aggression, while a dog doing the same signals submission. In homes with cats and dogs living peacefully, researchers observed a surprising behavior. They are learning how to talk each other's language. It is a surprise that cats can learn how to talk “dog” ,and dogs can learn how to talk “cat”. What's interesting is that both cats and dogs have appeared to develop their intelligence. They can learn to read each other's body signals, suggesting that the two may have more in common than we previously suspected. Once familiar with each other's presence and body language, cats and dogs can play together, greet each other nose to nose, and enjoy sleeping together on the sofa. They can easily share the same water bowl and in some cases groom (梳理) each other. The significance of this research on cats and dogs may go beyond pets—to people who don't get along, including neighbors, colleagues at work, and even world superpowers. If cats and dogs can learn to get along, surely people have a good chance. 24.The underlined word “swimmingly” in Paragraph 1 is closest in meaning to ________. A. early B. sweetly C. quickly D. smoothly 25.Some cats and dogs may fight when________. A. they are cold to each other B. they look away from each other C. they misunderstand each other's signals D. they are introduced at an early age 26.It is suggested in Paragraph 4 that cats and dogs ________. A. have common interests B. are less different than was thought C. have a common body language D. are less intelligent than was expected 27.What can we human beings learn from cats and dogs? A. We should learn to live in harmony. B. We should know more about animals. C. We should live in peace with animals. D. We should learn more body languages. C(王春红) Robots that can chat, find misplaced glasses, draw aeroplanes and play with your children are drawing thousands of visitors’ attention during an expo in Tokyo as Japan adapts to changes in society. Robots, such as the sound-sensitive Chapit, answer simple questions and even joke with people to help the lonely fight loneliness and stay active in old age. “Many older people in Japan live alone and have no one to talk to,” said Kazuya Kitamura,a representative of the expo organizer. “Communication robots accompany people and don’t mind listening to the same stories over and over again.” While Chapit,a relatively simple robot, managed to?allure?a corporate partner, many researchers, such as Kiyoshi Matsumoto,a professor at the University of Tokyo, struggle to interest sponsors for more expensive projects. Matsumoto’s “Personal Mobility Robot”,equipped with four cameras and a sensor to recognize the user’s centre of gravity,is designed to help the elderly move around without pressing buttons, using joysticks(操纵杆) or rotating(转动) wheels as in traditional wheelchairs. The robot can also help find misplaced glasses by identifying them with a sensor. “We have developed a robot that can assist many people, but because of the high cost,we still haven’t found a sponsor,”said Matsumoto, who added that the cost of the machine,if massproduced, would be comparable to that of a car. “In the current economic environment there are few companies willing to invest in such a costly project,” he said. Other robots, such as the award-winning “DiGRO” can support busy parents who have little time to play with their children. The robot can use the Internet to find a simple image and then draw pictures, keeping children company while their parents work. Japan has one of the world’s fastest-ageing societies and the government predicts that by 2050 the proportion of people over 65 will reach 40 percent. 28. The underlined word “allure” in Paragraph 4 can be replaced by ________. A.attract ?B.exclude C.connect?? D.strike? 29. Why is it difficult to find sponsors for the robots ? A.Because Japan is suffering economy depression B.Because the robots are of poor design C. Because the future market is worrying D.Because the production of robots costs a lot 30. What is the author’s attitude towards the robots referred to? A.Unsatisfied.??? ?B.Favorable.??? ?C. Doubtful.?? D. Regretful. 31. What can be inferred from the text ? A.Many children lack love from parents B.Robots are the most useful to children C.Robots helpful to the old will be in great demand D.Robots do better than people in healthcare D(王琛) What is the color of the universe? Astronomers had not answered this question until two months ago. That is when two American astronomers reported on their study of all the light in the universe. They said that the universe would appear to the human eyes to be a light greenish color. Karl Glazebrook and Ivan Baldry of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, reported their finding in January. They presented the research at a meeting of the American Astronomical Society. They said that finding the color of the universe was not part of their more serious scientific research. They did it for fun. However, earlier this month, the scientists admitted making a mistake. They said their finding was much more colorful than it should have been. They now say the light from our universe is closer to white. It is more like a milky or creamy white color. Their study attempted to show what people might see if they could observe the universe from far away. The scientists found the average color by combining light from about two-hundred-thousand star systems. Their information came from an observatory in New South Wales, Australia. The scientists gave a number value to the colors of the different star systems. Then they added the numbers together and found the average measurement. The scientists used this average to identify the color of the universe. They said it was a very pretty light green. Many newspapers and television stations reported their finding. Other scientists and color engineers attempted to reproduce the result. Mark Fairchild of the Rochester Institute discovered a mistake in the computer software program used by the Johns Hopkins scientists. When the mistake was corrected, the results changed. The new color of the universe is much less colorful. It is very close to white. 32.The color of the universe is _______. A.close to white B.black C.blue D.light greenish 33.The two scientists found the color of the universe by _______. A.combining light from about 200,000 star systems B.observing at an observatory in India C.making long-term scientific research D.using computer software programs | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
