We would watch game shows in the living room. Our favorite was The Price is Right. We would call out our answers along with the contestants. When I got older and started going to school, we couldn't watch our game shows regularly. That was okay with me, though, because the one thing I liked better than watching game shows with my grandmother was helping her bake(烘烤)cakes. Watching her in the kitchen was amazing: she never seemed to need the recipes but everything she made tasted delicious. At first I would just sit in the kitchen and watch, even though I didn’t understand what she was doing, As I got older, she let me help with the easy parts, such as measuring the sugar. The day she let me separate the eggs, I felt like I had found complete pleasure. At last, my parents decided that I could take care of myself, and my grandmother stopped coming over every day. The love of baking, however, stayed with me. I started baking by myself, and even if the cookies ended up burnt sometimes, more often they turned out pretty well. I tried out new recipes, and whenever I got to a thorny part, I would call my grandmother for advice. Sometimes I would call her just to talk, too. I felt like I could talk to her about anything. My grandmother passed away ten years ago, but I still think of her every day. Last week, I found a recipe book she made for me. It included her recipes for brownies, cookies, and my favorite, lemon pie. As I looked through the pages, I thought I could hear her voice. She was the one who taught me not just about baking, but about life. 24. The passage is mainly developed by . A. turned out to be a troublemaker B. found it interesting and appealing C. hoped to make a living by baking D. regretted missing the game shows 26. What does the underlined word "thorny" in Paragraph 4 most probably mean? A. Basic. B. Common. C. Difficult. D. Special. 27. What’s the author’s purpose in writing this passage? A. To remember her grandmother. B. To show her good baking skills. C. To talk about her happy family life. D. To describe her childhood memories. C You could fill the sky with flying cars-or what Carl Dietrich calls“flying一driving vehicles.”Carl Dietrich said, "Since the turn of the twentieth century, there have been many hundreds of published concepts for flying-driving vehicles. And some of them have actually been built and flown. But at this point the Transition is the closest to actually getting to the marketplace." Carl Dietrich heads a company in Massachusetts called Terrafugia. Terrafugia is developing the Transition street-legal airplane, which many people have characterized as the first practical flying car. And the Transition is designed to really be a general airplane, like a Cessna or a Piper, a propeller-powered airplane that can fold up its wings, drive down the road and park in a single-car garage. Carl Dietrich says the Transition Roadable Aircraft easily changes to a car. It takes about twenty seconds. It’s like putting the top down on a convertible, only instead of folding up your roof, we’re folding up our wings and we’re transferring power from a propeller to the wheels for driving on the ground. Development began in 2006, and the first road and flight tests took place in 2009. The company expects to complete the building process for its flying cars within the next few months. Then it will begin an intensive year-long testing program. Terrafugia expects the Transition to reach market by the end of twenty-twelve, at a price of around two hundred fifty thousand dollars. Carl Dietrich says nearly one hundred people have already signed up as buyers. He hopes to sell as many as a thousand a year in the near future. 28. What can we learn about the flying-driving vehicles from Paragraph 1? A. Carl Dietrich was the first to think of it. B. No one has really built a real one so far. C.
