I had no interest in playing it. All that I wanted to do was to improve my soccer skills. However, my parents believed that playing soccer was a waste of my valuable time. They thought I should use the time to focus on school and develop my brain by taking on a difficult task, such as learning to play music. However, since the first day of the lessons, I disliked the guitar. While learning to play the guitar. I just wanted to play soccer as much as I could. But what could a ten-year-old do when his parents said they would punish him if he didn’t do what they told him to do? Even though I loathed the guitar lessons with all my heart, I went to the instructor week after week. And week after week, I would come back and be tired of the lessons and of the amount of practice hours required. After wasting a year of my life learning how to play the guitar, I still had not made much progress. My parents began to realize that I was not born to play the guitar and that I was not having fun trying to learn, either. They finally understood how much I wanted to play soccer. So after one bad year, my parents called the music instructor and told him I would no longer take guitar lessons. I was very happy. Now I play soccer every day and I play it very well. I do think parents should let their children do what they're good at and what they truly love. 24. The author took guitar lessons because _______________. . ' A. playing sports is more important than playing an instrument B. we 'll finally fall in love with something we hate at first ' C. parents should let their children do what they really love D. children should know what they' re really good at C Should today' s students use textbooks at school? Let's read about some students' opinions on it. Jonathan Segundo: In my personal opinion, schools should stop using textbooks. They always change and schools don't always have the money to keep updating(更新) them. Don ' t get me to start on all the paper we ' re wasting. It would be a lot easier to use an inexpensive piece of technology. Kids wouldn ' t have to carry around tons of heavy books and they could still get all the latest information. . Alexx Arredondo: I don ' t think schools should continue to use textbooks. A main reason would be that the information in textbooks can be more easily found on the Internet. I have always found it simpler and more effective to study and research on the Internet rather than to study out of a less informative textbook. Now I hardly use textbooks but I still have to pay for them. Elizabeth Medrano: I think schools shouldn 't continue to use textbooks because there ' s a lot of new technology coming up. All the information of all the textbooks from any subject can be stored in a high-tech and light-weight device. You don't have to carry all those heavy books everywhere you go. I think we should make new changes for the better of everyone in all school districts. Krystal Cavazos: I personally think that school should no longer use textbooks. They' re a complete waste of space and paper. We should switch to technology, which is what most school districts are starting to do. We could download these books to our phones, laptops, eReaders and iPads. An app that has my math, reading or science book is not going to make my pocket heavier. It would also be easier to do homework instead of carrying a heavy book around. 28. We can infer that Alexx Arredondo _____________. ~ A. doesn ' t study very hard - B. considers textbooks cheap C. likes researching on the Internet . D. often carries heavy textbooks around 29. What Elizabeth Medrano says shows that using a small device for all textbooks is _____________________. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
