　　此题的正确答案是A(so serious a),不定冠词a/an通常放在形容词前面，但如形容词前有so, too, how 时，a/an就该放在形容词后面，结构为so/too/how +adj. +a/an + n. 如果没有不定冠词，就不能用这个结构。如：
　　I've never seen so beautiful a park before. 我从未见过如此美丽的公园。
　　He had too small an income to send his child to school. 他收入太少，不能送孩子上学。

　　此题的正确答案是C（that），on condition that相当于on one condition，意思近于only if，后面的that-clause是同位语从句，说明条件的内容。选项A中which通常作疑问代词或关系代词，不能引出同位语从句；选项B中when，选项D中where都是疑问副词或关系副词，不能引出同位语从句。如：
I'll come on condition that John is invited, too．如果约翰也受到邀请，我就来。
　　You may borrow the book, on condition that you return it in a week．你可以借这本书，条件是一周后还。

　　此题的正确答案是B（flesh），flesh通常指人或动物身上的肉，也可指供食用的兽类的肉，选项A中meat指供食用的动物肉总称，不合题意，选项C中muscles意为肌肉，可数名词，与a great deal of连用不妥，且不合题意，选项D中pork指猪肉，不会题意。如：
　　Tigers are flesh-eating animals．老虎是食肉动物。
　　These sorrows are more than flesh and blood can bear．这些痛苦非血肉之躯可以忍受。
　　I had permitted Mr Li to attend the show. I had to keep my word．
　　此题中permitted应改为promised，promise（vi．）意为答应、许诺（某人）（做）某事，作出保证等，后接名词、代词、动词不定式以及宾语从句，有时可接双宾语，而permit和allow不可接双宾语，permit／allow sb． to do sth．意为允许某人做某事，是复合宾语结构。如：
　　You’ve got to promise me to obey his command. 你应答应我服从他的指挥。
　　I promised Mrs Li that I could stop in to see her．我答应李太太，或许会停下来看她。
　　You promised me an orange． May I have it？你答应给我橘子。我可以拿吗？

　　【例4】The children pretended being doctors and nurses．
此题中being应改为to be，pretend（vi．）意为假扮，假装，后接动词不定式或宾语从句，不可接动词-ing形式。want，like wish，hope，manage，offer，promise，pretend，decide，desire，determine，expect等动词后面接不定式而不能接动词-ing形式作宾语。如：
　　Let’s pretend we are cowboys．让我们假扮牧童吧。
　　Jack pretended not to see me In the street．杰克假装在街上未看见我。
