1 gather ①to (cause to) come together;

(1)(of machinery) to fail to work;(车，机器)坏了；

4 get rid of ; deal with; do with

get rid of 表“处理”，侧重于把某物除掉，摆脱或消灭,

宾语可以是具体事物，也可是抽象名词。

Get rid of the bad habit.

2) deal with侧重于解决问题的方法方式，常于how连用；

How did they deal with matters of this sort?

deal with还可表“对付，与…打交道”

Deal with a man as he deals with you.

(3) do with 侧重与对某物的利用，相当于make use of,常于

what 连用；

5 nature ①特性，天性，性质；

②自然，世界； the beauties of nature

What is the nature of the new chemical?

6 seek (sought, sought)

(1)make a search (for), try to find or get sth.

(2) to try ,make an attempt;

seek (for/after) sth.寻找，寻求，追寻；

seek to do sth.试图做某事

be sought :be popular with受欢迎

e.g: They have sought for the boy for 4 days.

Most men seek wealth; all men seek happiness.

They sought to punish him for his crime but he

escaped.

These goods were sought by the readers.

7 multiply 乘，乘以

multiply A by B

e.g: Five multiplied by six is/equals thirty.
