Lesson 93
教学设计方案

Teaching Aims

  1. Study this lesson to know how to talk about the weather and know more about farming.

  2. Get the students to practise the dialogue in pair’s.

  3.. Ask some students to act it out.

Teaching Procedures

Step 1. Lead in

Ask the students questions like these:

  What’s the weather like today?

  Do you know what is the weather going to be like for the next two days?

  Did you listen to the weather report on the radio?

Step 2. Listening

  Play the tape for the students to listen and find out according to the dialogue:

  What’s the weather like today?

  What’s the weather going to be like for the next two days?

  What’s the weather going to be like at the weekend?

Step 3 .Reading

  Read the dialogue silently and find out:

  What will Tim do tomorrow?

  What had they better do before the weather changes?

Step 4 .Dialogue

  1. Play the tape of the dialogue for the students to listen and follow.

  2. Go through the dialogue briefly. Deal with the language points.

  1) be busy with, l)be busy doing

  2) What's...like...? 怎么样?指人时问的是“外貌,性格”

   How is...? 怎么样?指人时问的是“身体状况”

   What is the weather like? = How is the weather?

  But: What is the new teacher like?

  Possible answers: He is very tall. Or: he is very kind.

  How is the teacher now?

   Possible answers: He is getting better today. Or: He is quite all right.

  3) be made of, be made from

  3. Let the students practise in pairs.

  4. Ask one pair to act it out in front of the class.

Step 5. Practice

  1. Ask the students to make sentences from the two tables.

  2. Deal with the new words.

Step 6. Listening

  1. Listening Cassette Unit 24. Play the tape once or twice as necessary.

  2. Discuss the answers with the whole class.

  3. Do Ex.2,3 on page 130.

Step 7. Consolidation

  1. Do some exercises on page 94, Ex. 1,2,3.

  2. Ask the students to make up a similar dialogue.

Step 8 Homework

  Prepare a story with the words in the box on page 94.

  1. Study this lesson to know more about farming.

  2. Get the students to know about the text by fast reading and intensive reading.

  3. Get the students to grasp the main idea of the passage.

  4. Get the students to guess the meanings of some key words from the context.

Teaching Procedures

Step 1 Presentation

  教师活动:教师展示两张图片(见ppt.),让学生了解本课相关内容,农业专家贾思勰的情况,导入本课的相关内容。

  学生活动:学生根据自己所了解的知识回答教师所提问的问题

  Look at the pictures and answer the following questions:

  Who knows QI Min Yao Shu and its writer?

  Do you know about the science of farming in our country?

Step 2 Watch the video

  教师活动:教师播放本课的视频内容(见ppt.),主要通过视听,让学生大概了解课文内容。播放完之后教师通过设问,给学生几分钟的时间思考,然后提问,让学生一起回答。

  学生活动:学生看完视频后,通过思考,回答下列问题。

  1)  What were the people in other countries doing while the farmers in China were developing the science of farming?

  2) What book did he write? What is the book about?

  Key:1) People in other countries were trying to catch wild animals and birds and were still collecting seeds and nuts while farmers in China were developing the science of agriculture. 2) He wrote a book called Qi Min Yao Shu and the book is about both farming and gardening.

Step 3 Listening

  教师活动:教师播放录音一至两遍(见ppt.声音),提问各别学生每段的含意。

  学生活动:学生听完之生,回答下列问题。

  Listening the Lesson 94 twice, Answer the meanings of each paragraph.

Paragraph 1-2

Key: China was the earliest research center for agriculture.

Key: Jia Sixie’s research on farming.

Step 4 Intensive Reading

  学生活动:学生通过仔细阅读课文,然后回答教师出的问题。

  Ask the students to read the text again and choose the best answer to each question.

Step 8 Writing

  教师活动:教师展示图片(见ppt.),学生根据图片内容写一篇作文,学生在一起可互相交流,最后教师讲评。

  学生活动:学生根据图片内容,通过课文知识,完成此篇作文。

Step 9 Talking and Speaking

  教师活动:教师展示三张图片(见ppt.),让学生进行口语练习,描述图片的内容。教师把学生分别三个小组,一个小组说出一个图片。

  学生活动:学生通过观看图片,联想实际生活,在一起讨论,然后发言说出图片的内容。

  Ask your partner what he /she knows about farming? Talk about these pictures.

Suggest words:

  A farmer is ploughing the soil . Some farmers are sowing the seeds. Some farmers are working in the terrace

Step 10 Homework

  Finish the Workbook exercises.

  Retell the passage with your own words.

  Prepare the Lesson 95.

  1.Study the advice collected from Qi Min Yao Shu and learn more about farming.

  2.Learn the grammar item: Indirect speech

Teaching Procedures

Step 1 Lead in

  1.Revision Lesson 94 and ask them some questions about Jia Sixie.

  2.Show the pictures to the students.

Step 2 Reading  

  1.Ask the students to read the passage.

  1) What did the first advice from Jia Sixie’s book?

  2)How to plough the soil from Jia Sixie’s book?

  2. Let the students get a general idea of the passage.

Step 3 Language study

  Deal with some notes and language points.

  1) go against  2) year after year  3) now and then  4) agree to do sth.

Step 4 Grammar

Indirect Speech

  1. Review what the students learned about the indirect speech before by doing some exercises.    2. Teach the forms of indirect questions.

  a. the use of “if or whether” for “yes/ no questions” 

  b. the change in word ( subject- verb)

  c. the change in tense (back one step)

  d. the change in pronouns (“you” to “he, etc.”)

  e. no question marks

  3. Teach the forms of indirect imperative.

  a. Change of pronouns

  b. Use of an introductory phrase: He told/advised farmers to. . ./that, or they asked him...

  c. Change of tense in the reported phrase when appropriate    

Step5 Practice

  1).Lesson 95 Part 2. Let the students work in pairs, get some students to report the advice to the whole class.

  2) . Lesson 95 part 3.

  Go through the examples in the book with the students and revise the forms of indirect questions. Let the students work alone or in pairs. Check the answers with the whole class.

Step 6 Practice

  Let the students do Ex. 2 on page 96.

  Say something about Jia Sixie's pieces of advice from his book “Qi Min Yao Shu”

His advice on time

If you sow seed and grow young plants at the correct time of year,

less work, results will be better

If you go against nature,

do more work and the results will be not good

His advice on soil

Examine the soil on your farm carefully.

If the condition of the soil is not good, you should improve it.

How to plough

The first time—autumn ploughing

plough deeply

The second time—spring ploughing

Plough less deeply

Why to change the crops

You will harvest good crops.

How to use the fields

Grow different plants next to each other in the same field.

Step 7 Homework

  1.Retell Lesson 94 and Lesson 95.

  2.Finish off the Workbook exercises.

Teaching Aims

  1.Practise the writing first orally with the whole class. 

  2.Train students write a letter.

Teaching Procedures

Step 1 Revision

  1.Revise the contents of the reading passages in Lessons 94 and 95. Ask a few more Ss to say something about Jia Sixie.

  2 .Revise Indirect Statements by getting the Ss to report the advice given by Jia Sixie in his book.

Step 2 Writing

  SB Lesson 96, Part 1. Do the first two orally with the whole class, then let the Ss work alone.

Suggest Answers:

  1.What is the name of the bbok which you have written?

  2.How long did it take you write the book?

  3.What is the book about?

  4.Where were you born?

  5.What did you use/What used you to do before you studied agriculture?

Step 3 Test

  Books closed. Ask someone do this passage oral to the Ss: for example:

  Jia Sixie was one of the pioneers of farming. He studied, collected information, did experiments  and he learnt from farmers and peasants.  In 533-544 AD,  he wrote a book which included advice on improving the condition of the soil,  growing green vegetables and fruit trees, keeping cows and sheep,  and keeping fish in lakes. He also gave instructions for making wine.

Step 4 Writing

  Let the Ss write the letter in their exercise books. They can show it to a partner for suggested improvements.

Step5 Workbook

  Wb Lesson 96, Exx. 1 - 3.

  Read through the sentences or dialogues, making sure the Ss know what they should do. Do the first sentence as an example. Then let the Ss practise in pairs. Finally check the answers with the whole class.

Step 6 Homework

  Finish the Workbook exercises.

  Write the final version of the letter.
